IU Campus Farm @ Hinkle-Garton opens a 2024 Farm Internship

Farm Internship
Position Description: Learn by growing, managing, and harvesting organic produce, and engaging with the local community via distributing food through emergency food relief and direct-to-consumer sales. Interns will work over the summer to plan and execute the farm’s production, distribution, and community engagement, as well as plan out and initiative the fall season. Interns will guide student and community volunteers, and guide service learners. See additional details below.
Responsibilities: Help maintain the IU Campus Farm. Plant, cultivate, weed around, harvest,rinse, and pack vegetables and fruit. Lead volunteer groups and give farm tours. Mow, weed eat, and trim vegetation. Care for chickens and/or small ruminants. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Passion and interest in food systems, strong work ethic and capacity to work in the outdoors with varied (hot, humid, rainy, cool, etc.) conditions vital. Must be able to carry 40 lbs. at least 200’ over rough terrain and engage in manual labor. Positive mental attitude and desire to help others is paramount. Must be a student over the summer to apply. Farming experience is advantageous, but not necessary.
Compensation: Compensation is $15/hr.
Work Hours/Schedule: Interns expected to work 15-20 hours a week. We have morning and evening work sessions. Morning hours are 8 AM to 12 PM and evening hours are 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Days and times include weekdays and weekends (rotational), and some holidays (rotational).
