WOW8 is planned for June 2029
Workshop on the Ostrom Workshop 7 (WOW7), "Commons, Polycentricity, & Democracy: Building upon 50 years of Ostrom Governance Research" was held June 19-21, 2024 in Bloomington, Indiana. See the WOW website for photos, awards, and for information on WOW8, planned for 2029.

"Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 7th Workshop on the Workshop, held here in Bloomington June 19-21. What an unforgettable gathering! With over 65 panels, and 293 attendees, this was the largest WOW to date. The success of WOW7 was the direct result of the hard work of the Workshop staff and a team of volunteers, who managed the logistics of panels held in four separate buildings on campus.
We began with an open plenary in which Gwen Arnold, Edella Schlager, Abby York, and Ron Oakerson reflected on the continued relevance of the Bloomington School of Institutional Analysis, and how the model of the workshop has shaped communities of practice beyond Bloomington. Over the following days, we witnessed a celebration of the ways in which the foundations on which the Workshop was built-artisanship, contestation, and of course, rigorous and engaged scholarship and manifestation of collective action - continue to characterize the scholarship and community of the Workshop family today.
The conference closed with the next generation of Workshop scholars highlighting the themes from the conference that they found the most exciting and identifying remaining challenges in advancing scholarship on institutional analysis. Participants voted on the best poster presentations and celebrated each other through spontaneous giving of Ostrom Workshop souvenirs. It was a true reflection of the warmth and intellectual breadth of the Ostrom Workshop family. It truly is an honor to be a part of this community, and it was an honor for us to co-chair WOW7. We look forward to seeing you in five years at WOW8! In the meantime, the IASC conference will be held in June 2025 at University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and we hope you will attend.
