The topics covered in food and agrarian systems have long been a prominent area of study at the Ostrom Workshop, from irrigation systems in Nepal, to fisheries in New England, and farmland transfer in the Midwest. The new Program is directed by O’Neill Associate Professor James Farmer, who created and directs the IU Campus Farm, and recently led the Food Institute and the Sustainable Food Systems Initiative. Farmer will convene IU’s critical mass of food and agrarian systems scholars along with the Ostrom Workshop global affiliate network to bolster the new program. The FAS Program will bring together the interdisciplinary power of these faculty, practitioners, and staff to tackle wicked food and agrarian systems questions and applied problems on local, regional, and global levels.
