The Space Cybersecurity Foundations digital badge program is an introductory program designed to provide high-level orientation and conceptual grounding in space cybersecurity. It serves as a precursor to the Indiana University Space Cybersecurity digital badge program, offering participants a structured entry point into the topic before engaging in more advanced, in-depth study.
The Indiana University Space Cybersecurity Foundations Digital Badge program provides participants with a focused introduction to the cybersecurity challenges facing space systems in today’s complex geopolitical and commercial environment and how to address them
The program offers an overview of cyber threats to space systems and their attack surface, along with the foundational approaches used to manage these risks, including secure-by-design principles, detection and monitoring, incident response, and resilience practices. Participants are also introduced to the key regulatory, policy, and standards landscape governing space cybersecurity, with attention to both U.S. and European frameworks.
Upon completion, earners of this badge from the Indiana University Space Governance Lab will have a clear understanding of the strategic, organizational, and governance dimensions of space cybersecurity. They will be familiar with the principal regulatory instruments and standards shaping cybersecurity expectations for space systems, and with the importance of organization-wide cybersecurity policy for risk management, compliance, and response to cyber incidents.
Designed as an entry-level credential, the program supports professionals seeking foundational literacy in space cybersecurity and provides an opportunity to engage with a growing network of space cybersecurity practitioners and policy professionals.
