Greetings from the Ostrom Workshop, and Happy Easter/Passover/Spring! In these challenging times much is in flux, but I know I speak for all of us when I thank our wonderful staff – who are really the lifeblood of our community, both at 513 Park Ave and now in cyberspace – for still making it possible for us to virtually host events and make progress on a number of fronts despite the pandemic, and recent power failures in and around Bloomington. Among other things, and again thanks in no small part to their efforts, I’m happy to report that the Workshop is the co-recipient of a new approximately $100k funding stream from the Canadian Academy of Social Sciences on applying insights from polycentric governance to mitigating the threat of orbital debris. We’re also hosting a two-part virtual Cyber Peace Colloquium this Friday, Apr. 17 continuing next Friday, Apr. 24 in which scholars from across numerous disciplines – and from around the world – will be discussing their draft papers, which will form an edited volume focused on prompting peace and security in cyberspace in part by fostering effective, nested multi-stakeholder governance structures. All are welcome to attend, and participate, in these discussions; an agenda will be available online. In short, we’re adapting the best we can, just as I’m sure all of you are. Doubtless, there will be more challenges ahead, but that’s nothing new in the nearly 50-year history of the Workshop. We’ll overcome them together. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any requests, ideas, or just to get the details for the next virtual cocktail party!
