The Ostrom Lecture on Environmental Policy will be given annually in the spring semester by a distinguished scholar-in-residence. This lecture is a component of the Program on Environment & Natural Resource Governance—created in 2016 to develop a network of scholars to examine the institutions that govern natural resources.

The fourth annual Ostrom Lecture on Environmental Policy was presented by Peter Kareiva, CEO and President, Aquarium of Pacific and Research Professor, UCLA. His lecture was titled "The Power and Peril of Narratives in Determining Environmental Policy."

The second annual Ostrom Lecture on Environmental Policy was presented by Barton (Buzz) Thompson, Stanford Law School, Robert E. Paradise Professor of Natural Resources Law; Senior Fellow, Woods Institute for the Environment. Thompson's lecture was titled "Civil Wars: The Challenges of Interstate Waterways."
