The 2015–18 Strategic Plan marks the culmination of an eight-month collaborative process that began in early Fall 2014. It responds to a four-part charge—given to Lee Alston upon his appointment as Director of the Ostrom Workshop—from IU Provost Lauren Robel to develop strategic priorities that are aligned with IU’s Bicentennial Strategic Plan, including active participation in its Grand Challenges Initiatives. We responded to the charge with six strategic priorities. Their accompanying set of actions, the requirements that they satisfy, and our metrics for success are outlined in detail in the plan. We regard the first two as our highest priorities: (1) Reach out proactively to engage scholars across the IU Bloomington campus and around the world in order to stimulate broad, dynamic scholarly collaborations and (2) Continue to pursue interdisciplinary research through a portfolio of research programs that will share a thematic focus on governance.
