Leticia Merino is an Emeritus Professor at the National Autonomus University of Mexico (UNAM), working at the Institute of Social Research and teaching at the postgraduate Programs on Political and Social Sciences and Sustainability Sciences.
She was translator into Spanish and long-time collaborator of Lin Ostrom.
For more than thirty years she has worked on indigenous and local community governance of territories and natural resources in Mexico. For the last seven years she worked on the impact of extractive projects (mining and fracking) and on community responses to extractivism in Mexico and Latin America.
She organized the IASC conference in 2004 and was president of the IASC from 2013 to 2015. She was Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, IPBES from 2017 to 2018, and Member of the United Nations Committee on Development Policies from 2016 to 2022.
