The Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis



Director of Library & Information Services/Director,
Digital Library of the Commons (employment date 2007)

Emily manages the Ostrom Workshop Library, which includes collection development, supervising library hourly staff, and providing one-on-one reference and bibliographical service and instruction to visitors, affiliates, and graduate students. She also manages the Digital Library of the Commons, including the DLC assistants working to populate it.

Computing Systems Manager (employment date 1999)
Ray provides in-house training, consulting, and support for staff, faculty, visiting scholars, and graduate students for all IT-related concerns.  He is responsible for system and network maintenance and administration and for the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of computing hardware and software.  He keeps the Ostrom Workshop informed of changes within the university and elsewhere related to IT.

Systems Analyst/Programmer (employment date 1986)
Julie is responsible for in-house research database development and data requests. She lends a hand in supporting staff, faculty, visiting scholars, and graduate students on IT-related matters at the Ostrom Workshop and is also responsible for IT support at CIPEC.

Accounting & Financial Support Specialist/Events Scheduler
(employment date 1988)

Gayle monitors budgets and expenditures on Ostrom Workshop accounts; initiates, verifies, and approves purchasing and financial transactions; assists with grad student funding and budget preparations; maintains personnel files; processes reimbursements, advances, and prepayments; oversees all aspects of the Visiting Scholars Program; logistical arrangements and details for long-term and short-term visitors; and serves as travel arranger. 

Publications Manager (employment date 1976)
Patty manages the Ostrom Workshop publications program, including production flow scheduling, editorial and typesetting services, maintaining and archiving master publication files, and dissemination. She serves as graphic designer and desktop publisher pertaining to a wide array of publication projects (for print and web), including the design, layout, editing, and production of the Polycentric Circles newsletter, annual reports, brochures, etc. She monitors and updates the website, and is responsible for managing the book inventory and centerís e-mail account. She also acts as key liaison with the universityís news and media specialists.

Office & Facilities Coordinator (employment date 2004)
David sets policy and procedure guidelines for the use of all Ostrom Workshop buildings. This includes security issues, room assignments and needs, monitoring and evaluating maintenance needs, and overseeing facilities renovations. Working directly with IU Real Estate, IU Physical Plant, Building Services, and the janitorial crew, he initiates and follows-up on maintenance work requests. David is also the first point of contact for visitors and new students and is available to help with setting up offices, distributing keys, assigning mailboxes, providing building tours, and answering any questions that visitors and students might have. Other duties include scheduling and preparing meeting rooms for classes, conferences, working groups, etc. He also maintains the telephone directory, inventory of office supplies, and handles the purchasing of office furniture and equipment. As head of the Emergency Control Committee, he recruits volunteers for the committee and schedules sessions for first-aid and CPR training, fire extinguisher training, and Critical Management Training for its members.

Executive Assistant and Grants Coordinator (employment date 2015)
Allison is responsible for all administrative support for the Director as well as grant support for external funding. She serves as the primary internal and external point of contact and representative for the Director, and helps to develop, communicate, and implement the Directorís strategic vision for the Ostrom Workshop by identifying needs, determining priorities, expediting opportunities, and resolving issues. She oversees the creation and submission of external funding budgets and proposals; advises researchers on external agency and university policies, guidelines, and procedures; and monitors award compliance and deadlines. She also participates in the planning, coordination, and oversight of meetings, special programs, events, retreats, and other departmental activities.
